We’re seeing a lot of these problems in the last two weeks, which makes us think that maybe there has been a Windows update, Explorer patch, or a Flash update behind the problem.

In any event, the problem shows up with an icon at the bottom RHS of your screen saying that your copy of Windows must be activated within xx number of days. And this starts counting down each day you switch on your computer.

If you click on the activation, the activation window opens up showing a blank, i.e. nothing further is possible besides closing the activation window.

If you leave the activation till it runs out, you cannot access your computer at all beyond the cutoff.

The fix is quite extensive in that it involves “breaking down” Windows and then building it back up again. Budget for being without your computer for at least 2 working days.
